Dr. Davy Harkins graduated from KSU with his doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1971. He moved to El Dorado with every intention of staying a short time and moving on after he learned “what he needed to know” from Dr. John Gish. Instead, he married Mary Gail, and they have since raised 8 children together. They purchased the practice from Dr. Gish in 1976 and sold it to Dr. Gish’s great-granddaughter, Dr. Mikaela Sundgren, in March 2021.
Dr. Davy feels he has changed professions many times over the years as he has evolved with the changes in veterinary medicine. One of his favorite areas is veterinary dentistry, and he is one of the few in Kansas that perform root canals and orthodontics on pets.
Dr. Davy still has a passion for veterinary medicine, and still occasionally comes in to the office to see patients, although he is now considered retired!
In his spare time, Dr. Davy enjoys hunting, reading, spending time with his friends and family, and playing with any or all of his 18 grandchildren (sometimes even his two great-grandchildren!).
