World Rabies Day

world rabies day logoHello, again! Kasie here. I need to talk about something that is pretty important. World Rabies Day is September 28, 2014. This is a day to raise awareness about a horrible and very preventable disease. Dogs and cats play a very important role in protecting their humans from exposure to rabies. Did you know that the household pets (dogs and cats both) are the first defense against rabies between their humans and rabid animals that could be nearby? If you do not properly vaccinate us, then you could be putting yourself and others at risk for exposure to this terrible disease! Even with proper vaccinations, you should still check with your veterinarian if you suspect that your pet has been exposed to this disease, as additional vaccination or quarantine may be recommended. Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms develop, and over 55,000 humans die of this disease worldwide every year. Since my human loves me, and entrusts me with the responsibility of keeping him and his family safe, he makes sure I am properly vaccinated, along with all of the other pets that I help him care for as well. Tell your humans to make sure you are properly vaccinated against this deadly disease, too!
